UNESCO European and Global Geopark
The Geopark Naturtejo the southern Meseta, which links the cities of Castelo Branco, Idanha-a-Nova, Nisa, Oleiros, Proença Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão, aims to highlight the places that act as key witnesses of history of the Earth, boosting employment and promoting regional economic development. The vast heritage geomorphological, geological, paleontološki and geomineiro, presents elements of national and international relevance, which are examples of the icnofósseis Penha Garcia, the cannons river of Penha Garcia, das Portas do Ródão and Almourão, a gold mine in Roman Conhal of the Arneiro and morphologies of Sierra granite of Gardunha and Monsanto. The practices ancestors, living testimony of multiple singularities of culture raiana, have strong roots in the landscape. The status of "most Portuguese village of Portugal," given to Monsanto, and the Villages of Xisto, throughout the Geopark Naturtejo, are symbols of wealth ethnographic still very well preserved.
